Looking for Toys
By Haley Pal
The Windham Historical Society has a wonderful idea for an exhibit in the Town House Headquarters Building that will coordinate with the Grand Opening of The Village School. We’re working on converting our exhibition room into a toy store filled with playthings that range from early pieces to toys of the twentieth century.
If you have some toys you’d like to donate or let us borrow for about six months, please drop them off any Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or call Curator Penny Loura at 892-1433 to arrange a drop-off time.
Here is a list of some things that we could use:
A children’s table and chairs (preferably antique)
A tea set (Old would be nice, but any pretty porcelain set would work)
Dolls of all shapes and sizes from Shirley Temple to Barbie to Cabbage Patch Kids to early ragdolls and porcelain dolls
A train set
Hula hoops, toy cars and trucks, children’s books, old board games, an old jigsaw puzzle, and anything else you can think of that would make a toy exhibit more compelling.
If you’re gracious enough to allow us to borrow your toys, we will carefully document what has been lent and will take care that you get the toy back in the same condition as when it was brought to us. Your help would be most appreciated in putting this whimsical exhibit together. Please participate. This is an excellent way to enjoy having fun with history and sharing it with some of the younger citizens of our town!
