Commemorative Bicentennial Calendar
With pencil and ink drawings by Windham resident and Society member Jerry Black, text by Windham writer Walter Lunt and design by the talented Rebecca Weller, also of Windham, this handsome calendar is a wonderful gift idea.
Each month features a nostalgic scene or vignette that is accompanied by a paragraph of copy describing the illustration, so as you move through the coming year, you will learn a little Maine history as well.

The Gunpowder Mills of Maine, by Maurice M. Whitten. copyright 1990
This is a 324 page hardcover book, with one chapter devoted to the Gorham-Windham Powder Mills. The book is a comprehensive treatment of the gunpowder industry from its beginning shortly after Maine became a state until its end in the early twentieth century. The book measures 9 1/4" X 6 1/4".

Windham 1976, a Bicentennial Edition.
This 107 page, ( 81/2" X 5 1/2") softcover booklet was published in 1976 to commemorate the Town's observance of the American Revolution Bicentennial.
The booklet has many pictures of Windham scenes plus descriptive accounts of activities going on during 1976. Included are a list of 1976 High School Seniors, Town Government Officials, and many historical activities.

A Historical Address by Thomas Laurens Smith
A soft cover booklet of 33 pages in length, 11" X 8 1/2", was reprinted by the Windham Historical Society in 1992.
As can be expected, the speech covers many
interesting aspects of life in Windham in the 1700's. The Appendix itemizes 19 specific items that Mr. Smith considered significant.

Images of America–Windham
Compiled by long time Windham resident and history enthusiast, Edith Bell and published in 1996, this is a 127 page soft cover booklet.
It measures 9 1/4" X 6 1/2".
The book focuses on the homes, businesses, and people who have made Windham what it is today. Many, many pictures of "old Windham" are included with a description of each location.

An Historical Poem About
Windham, Maine
Written by Phoebe Dole and produced by the Windham Historical Society to honor Maine's Sesquicentennial Celebration — 1970. It measures 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" and is printed on "parchment" type paper.
This poem was read at the dedication of a monument marking the spot where Chief Polin of the hostile tribe of Rockameecooks was shot on May 14, 1756.

Samuel Thomas Dole
This 611 page hardcover book (11" X 81/2") is probably the most definitive description of life in Windham ever written.
Reprinted in 1974 by the Windham Historical Society, this book is used as a guide and reference to historians of the town.

Cup Plate
Cup plates were widely used in the 18th and early 19th Century. Hot tea was served in handleless cups and poured into saucers to cool. Tea was drunk from the saucer while the cup was placed on a cup plate to protect the table. The plate measures 3 inches across.

Map of Windham—1920-1946
The Society has several different maps of Windham in different sizes. The one shown here (8 1/2" X 11") was done by P. Kennard in 2005. It is of N.Windham, once ironically called "Poverty Flats" and reflects the period between 1920 and 1946. Each residence is identified with the name of the owner according to the memories of Pete Philpot, Stephen Manchester and Phil Kennard.

Annual Reports of the Town of Windham
